Cisco Scores But Dominican Republic Falls
August 26, 2009 by kingsconnect ·
Kings forward Francisco Garcia led the Dominican Republic with 17 points today versus Brazil in the DR’s first game of the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, but it was not enough to defeat the Brazilians in a matchup between two of the top squads in the tournament. The DR tallied only seven points in the fourth quarter and fell by the final of 81-68, despite leading by four points after three quarters of what had been a tightly-contested game.
Cisco shot the ball well from downtown, hitting 5-of-10 three-pointers in a game-high 39 minutes, but the DR could not overcome the loss of both Al Horford (Hawks) and Charlie Villanueva (Pistons) due to foul trouble in the final quarter. Leandro Barbosa (Suns) was the high-scorer for the Brazilians with 21 points.
The DR will face Panama tomorrow in Game Two of pool play, where the top four teams from each of the two groups advance to the quarterfinals. Stay tuned to Kings.com for more info on the play of Cisco as well as Beno Udrih, who is currently training with the Slovenian National Team as it prepares for the 2009 European Championships in Poland next month.
