Casspi Ready to Make History
October 28, 2009 by Andrew Nicholson ·

The Kings 2009-10 regular season tips off tonight and when rookie Omri Casspi steps on the court for the first time against the Thunder or in one of the team’s upcoming games, he’ll make history.
A lot has been made of his ascent to become the first Israeli-born player to play in an NBA regular season game and along his journey to the moment it officially happens, Casspi has overcome any nerves or anticipation he felt.
“The excitement is over now,” Casspi said before the Kings took off for Oklahoma City. “I was excited at the first (day) of training camp, maybe the first (preseason) game, but I’m over it right now. I’m ready to play, and I’m focused on helping the team.”
Though he’s played his first Vegas Summer League game and preseason game, history will be made and his impact will be felt when the game counts. With the progress he’s made over the course of training camp, averaging 11.7 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field and 52 percent from three-point range, Casspi has done as much as he can to ensure his monumental step on the hardwood happens against the Thunder on October 28, 2009.
“I’ve been through a lot (and come) a long way,” Casspi said humbly. “I’ve made progress, I think during the summer, and I’m ready to help the team win as much as we can.”
As he has revealed his game to Sacramento and the League, Casspi has surprised many, including his coaches and teammates, but it’s nothing new to him.
“I didn’t surprise myself,” Casspi said. “This is the way I play. This is what I do. This is (how I played) in Europe.
“It was preseason… I want to be ready to play in the season and play good in the season.”
As he concluded his final thought, Casspi, possibly realizing all the practices and preseason had finally led to the moment he dreamed of when he was young, admitted, “I’m excited.”
