Exclusive: SKDT Swimsuit Calendar Invite

Hi Kings Fans!

Since my last blog, I’ve traveled to the other side of the world and back, twice!

This summer I had a chance to visit China with five of my teammates and take a fun personal trip to Australia. As I have mentioned in previous blogs, I love to travel. My teammates and I had a great time representing the NBA and the Kings in China. Visiting Western Australia for two weeks was also amazing – from exploring wineries, beaches and the outback to holding and feeding kangaroos and koalas and meeting friendly locals. It was great to get away and experience new countries and cultures, but I am glad to be back in Sacramento and excited for the Kings season!

After six members of the SKDT returned home from Iraq, we were able to start practice as a team. For more than a month, we’ve been busy preparing for the 2009-10 season. Last year was great for the SKDT, and we are working hard to improve and impress our fans. With only one new member, Sasha, we have the ability to continue to grow as a team with difficult choreography and technique. With the help of new choreographers, including some of our own members, we have exciting dances to songs like “I Love Rock n’ Roll” and Beyonce’s new single “Sweet Dreams.” The friendship and bond among the members of our team shows in our dancing, and I am honored to be a part of such an amazing and talented group of women.

It was a lot of fun to be back on the ARCO Arena court at our preseason home opener last Wednesday. Hearing the crowd clap in unison with Slamson during the fourth quarter gave me goose bumps. I love our fans’ dedication and loyalty year after year. The support we receive from Kings fans is greatly appreciated. We strive to provide the best entertainment at Kings games all season.

Along with the Kings first preseason game, the SKDT calendar went on sale for the first time at the Sacramento Team Store. We put a lot of hard work into creating our first-ever dance team calendar, and it was nice to see the final product.

The dance team is an amazing group of dancers and we are able to show it at every home game. Our calendar is a way to show the unique beauty of each talented dance team member. We spent two 12-hour plus days last December shooting the photos for the calendar. There are many things that go into a photoshoot including hair, make-up, costumes, proper nutrition and exercise to weather and location. Having a connection with the camera and feeling comfortable in front of the photographer are also important to get a perfect shot. Thanks to the professionalism and cooperation of my teammates and the photographer, the process went smoothly.

Join my teammates and me this Friday at the Park Downtown from 9:30-10:30 p.m. to celebrate the unveiling of our swimsuit calendar. The calendar will be available for purchase and we’ll be signing autographs and taking pictures. I hope to see you all there!

The Biggest Little Dance Team

Last weekend while the Kings were on the road, the Sacramento Kings Dance Team and I took a road trip of our own to Reno, Nev. We performed at the BigHorns-Stampede game Saturday afternoon to give D-League fans a taste of the NBA experience.

Six of us and four members of the Kings Crew left ARCO Arena at 9:30 a.m. excited for the day ahead. After doing hair, make-up and costume changes on the bus, we arrived at the Eldorado Hotel Casino for our first appearance, signing autographs at Brew Brothers restaurant.

Stepping off the bus we were greeted by BigHorns Co-owner Herb Santos, staff members and a group of awaiting fans. After signing SKDT posters and mingling with fans, we were off to the game at Reno Events Center.

The game was very exciting. We performed twice and the crowd was very receptive and complimentary. Having only six members of the SKDT performing, it was much different than a Kings game. With a smaller group and a smaller crowd, we really had to make sure each move and formation was on point. At halftime the Kings Crew showed off its break dancing ability and then we helped the Crew pass out tons of Kings t-shirts and mini-balls. The crowd was going crazy, and we wished we had brought more.

The BigHorns, who sported Kings jerseys for the night, ended up beating the division-leading Stampede with a half court shot at the buzzer. After the exciting finish we headed to our final appearance at Silver Legacy Resort Casino. We entered the casino to find our posters everywhere advertising our appearance. We felt honored the BigHorns put so much time into promoting us.

Following the appearance, we said our good-byes to the BigHorns staff and our Reno Kings fans. On our ride home we were all very thankful of the BigHorns’ organization and reminisced of the good memories we had made in The Biggest Little City. We were impressed by the professionalism of the BigHorns and can’t wait to go back as fans.

One of my favorite aspects of being a member of the SKDT is performing for fans who can’t make it to out to Kings games. Speaking of Kings games, its nearly tip-off for tonight’s match-up against the Charlotte Bobcats! I hope to see you all in the arena supporting our Kings!

Just Dance

Hi Kings fans,

Happy Holidays!

Seasons Greetings Kings fans! It’s been awhile since you’ve seen a SKDT blog.
It’s been a very busy season for us so far. Since the Home Opener, we’ve had a lot of home games, practices and appearances in the community.

While many of you see us performing our routines on the court, some of our favorite memories take place off the court. Giving back to the community is very important to Maloof Sports & Entertainment and we feel very blessed to be a part of it.

Every year before Thanksgiving, we donate our time to Loaves and Fishes. It’s humbling to spend time with the families in need and share in the good memories on the special day. During our visit, we load up and serve plates full of mashed potatoes, turkey, gravy, stuffing and all the Holiday fixings. Don’t forget about dessert. We have that covered too! Pumpkin and pecan pie… mmm! Everyone that attended the turkey dinner left with full bellies, fond memories and reasons to be thankful.

Following the Thanksgiving feast, we had another annual appearance at Shriners Children’s Hospital, which is our favorite to attend every year. We love being able to put a smile on the childrens’ faces. In that moment of happiness, it seems as if they haven’t had a worry in the world and have gained a friend in us. Sometimes we have to hold back the tears because it gives us even more reason to be thankful for all we have.

More recently, six of us performed for U.S. troops at their Holiday party at McClellan Air Force Base. We looked quite festive in our Santa-inspired dresses, which made the crowd go wild! It’s a great feeling to be able to show our appreciation for all they do for our country. After the performance, we stayed to sign posters, take pictures and mingle with the squadron. As our parting gift, we all received a stuffed teddy bear. It’s small things like that that make us smile!

Even though it’s been a very busy season so far, we want to thank all Kings fans for all the positive feedback we’ve received. It inspires us to keep working hard and allows us to put in the extra effort in order to bring the best entertainment Sacramento or the NBA has to offer! We appreciate the voice our fans have had this year and really take it to heart. Thank you!

Until our next blog, we wish you and your families a safe and happy Holiday!!! Make sure to stay tuned for a special SKDT SURPRISE in the New Year!
