SKDT Has More Excitement in Store
January 27, 2010 by Candace

I feel so alive embarking on such an adventurous new year! So much has happened since the last time I blogged, I’m happy to catch up with Kings fans again.
Now that fans are familiar with the busy lives of SKDT members, I have made it a priority to become more settled into my new home. I moved to Natomas about two months ago, and it’s been my best move yet! I absolutely love how close I am to everything and everyone I know. Fifteen minutes is all it takes for me to get downtown, to my fitness training, to appearances and to ARCO Arena. It’s now a highlight of my schedule to fill up on gas because it’s so infrequent!
Speaking of highlights, Tuesday’s win against the Warriors put a strain on my vocal chords! It was so exciting to have one of the best views in the arena, watching from the tunnel in the fourth quarter as the last few minutes counted down to the Kings victory. It was the first game in awhile that we performed three times and went out again during the fourth quarter to dance sideline choreography. Hearing the ARCO Thunder roar as the game intensified was an adrenaline rush. With the team on the road for the past two weeks, dancing at last night’s game reminded me how much I truly love my job and how much I missed being there while the Kings were away.
While our young team was playing on the East Coast, the SKDT had practices and local appearances. About half of us also nursed ourselves back to health after many of us caught a nasty little flu virus. I can happily report we’re all free of runny noses and healthy again. Striving to live an all-natural lifestyle, I fight off sickness the old fashioned way — rest, vitamins, drinking a lot of water and keeping warm. Staying cozy will be easier these days with the new SKDT warm-ups we received last week! Keep an eye out for the fashionable tracksuits with a dance team logo printed on the jacket back and pant leg.
With the cold weather, we have found ourselves indoors for some entertaining appearances. Jenn, Ari, Carly, Kelly and I attended the Kings Size High School Challenge Draft Lottery held at the Kings practice facility on Friday, Jan. 22. In front of the selected candidates representing the 11 high schools, the five of us performed a special routine and helped with the lottery draw. The high schools were given numbers 1-11 and based on the outcome of the lottery they chose a Kings player to represent their school and a game for which they will sell tickets. They are competing for exciting prizes, so make sure to show your support for the Kings and your favorite high school by buying your Kings tickets through your high school representative. I wish the best of luck to everyone!
My teammate Laura and I also had the pleasure of joining staff and fellow diners at Bella Bru in Carmichael last Saturday to watch Sacramento take on the Miami Heat. We signed individual photo cards, took pictures and raffled off an autographed framed picture of Kevin Martin to a lucky eight-year-old boy fully dressed in his Kings gear! It was great to have the opportunity to catch up with fellow supporters and mingle with some very loyal fans! The food was amazing and the staff provided excellent hospitality for our visit.
Find out more about our appearances and get all access coverage of the dance team by checking out the SKDT Lifestream and by following us on Twitter.com/SKDT! We post pictures, upcoming events and more. Also, to see the most up-to-date high-resolution photos of the SKDT, check out our photo blog, Smile.
I hope Kings fans are having a prosperous start to the New Year, and we look forward to seeing you at ARCO Arena for an upcoming game! Saturday’s Kings-Bobcats game has a special surprise in store for those in attendance — you won’t want to miss it!
As always, I leave you with a quote, this time it’s by Howard Thurman:
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
