Tyreke’s Blog: Sharing the Court with My Mom
January 12, 2010 by Tyreke Evans

It was pretty cool to have my mom and grandma visiting me in Sacramento for the holiday, since they don’t get to see me and be around me very much. It was their first time to California, so it was nice to have them here and spend time with them. I showed them all around Sacramento, and it was a lot of fun.
It was pretty funny to have my mom at a couple of our games sitting on the sideline because she talks a lot of trash. She talks to the players, the fans, she likes to meet everybody. It was fun for me and for her to be there in person, sitting courtside watching me play for the first time for the Sacramento Kings.
It was also special to go out in the community during the holidays because a lot of people don’t have a chance to get where we are in the NBA and see the games we play in. So for us to go out in the community and for the big Kings fans to see our faces, it’s pretty cool for them and for us.
It meant a lot to the Kings organization and me to win my second Western Conference Rookie of the Month award in December. Just to go out there and work hard, people don’t see all the hard work we put in because they just see us in games, but the award shows that I’m putting in a lot of hard work, effort and giving it everything I have on the court.
The healthier our team gets the better we’ll be. We can be a good team. Hopefully we can get some more wins and get back up to .500. When Cisco and Kev get back it will help us because they’re good players and they’ve been here for a while. They know how to go out there, play hard and bring more energy to the team. Even though we’ve played well with them out, their returns and Cisco’s leadership will help us a lot.
It’s important for us to keep closing out games like we did against the Nuggets. I want to continue making big plays at the end of games because that’s what the best superstars do. I’m glad Coach believed in me and gave me the opportunity to make that play and run the one-four flat again.
Tonight we play the Magic, who went to the NBA Finals last year. Dwight Howard’s good at what he does — blocking shots — but it’s just another basketball game. I just have to be weary he might block a couple of my shots and I might make a couple of lay ups, but at the end of the day, we just have to go out there and play basketball against another NBA team.
Thanks, Kings fans, for supporting me and following the team. I appreciate you for showing the Kings and me a lot of love. Keep coming to the games at ARCO!
