NEW ORLEANS 94, SACRAMENTO 92

December 8, 2009 – At New Orleans Arena, Kings fans held their collective breath at the end of the first quarter after Tyreke Evans crashed hard to the floor after a layup. After getting the wind knocked out of him, Evans returned. But before the game was over, it was the Hornets fans breathing a sigh of relief after the Kings’ comeback fell just a little short, 94-92. Evans scored the Kings’ final nine points of the game, finishing with a game-high 25 points. Darius Songaila’s basket with 11.9 seconds left gave the Hornets a 94-92 lead. Andres Nocioni was fouled with 1.1 seconds remaining, but couldn’t convert the two free throw attempts. The Kings struggled from the line all night, missing 10 of 19 attempts. The Hornets were not much better, making 14 of their 23 attempts. Evans also recorded five rebounds, nine assists, and a steal. Jason Thompson recorded 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds before fouling out with 3:25 left in the game. Three Hornets recorded double-doubles: Chris Paul (15 points, 12 assists), David West (a team-high 24 points, 12 rebounds), and Emeka Okafor (17 points, 12 rebounds). New Orleans went on a 14-5 run for a six-point lead, 91-85, with 2:44 left in the fourth quarter, before Evans scored seven straight points to give the Kings a 92-91 lead with 1:22 remaining. West scored three straight points for a 94-92 Hornets advantage. Evans made a spectular driving lay-up to tie the score, 94-94, at the 33.4 mark.

NOTES: Omri Casspi did not play due to a lower back spasm. Tyreke Evans has scored 20 or more points in 12 of his last 14 games, including the last four.
