Postgame Recap: Kings @ Rockets

November 21, 2009 by Darryl Arata

HOUSTON 113, SACRAMENTO 106

November 21, 2009 – At the Toyota Center, for the second straight night it was another good effort, another close game, but no win to show for it for the Kings as Houston came away with a 113-106 win. The Kings, already without Kevin Martin and Francisco Garcia, were without the services of Tyreke Evans, out after injuring his right middle finger in last night’s game at Dallas. Six Kings players scored in double-figures, led by Spencer Hawes, who matched his career high in points with 24 and grabbed a team-high-tying nine rebounds. Beno Udrih finished with 18 points and eight assists. Omri Casspi scored a career-high 17 points off the bench. After trailing by as many as 15 points in the second quarter, the Kings rallied and tied the score at 69-69 in the third quarter. With the score tied at 101-101, the Rockets scored six unanswered points for a 107-101 advantage with 1:24 left in the fourth quarter. Udrih connected on a three-pointer to bring the Kings within three, 107-104, at the 1:19 mark. However, the Rockets sealed the victory by scoring six straight points while forcing the Kings to miss five straight field goal attempts. Luis Scola scored 14 of his team-high 22 points in the first quarter and corralled a game-high 12 rebounds. Carl Landry came off the bench to tally 13 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter.

NOTES: The Kings shot 50 percent (50.6) from the field for the second straight game. Donte Greene made his second start of the season, filling in for Tyreke Evans. The Kings cut down their turnovers (21 at Dallas, 14 at Houston) but for the second straight game the opposition paraded to the free throw line more times than the Kings (Dallas, 21-14 free throw attempts; Houston, 26-17). Spencer Hawes was 2-of-3 from three-point range; he had missed his previous 13 three-point attempts this season.

    By the way, I’ve been hearing some rumours about a possible trade sending Andres NOCIONI to the Boston Celtics. Perhaps you may want share your views on this. ____http://mundoalbiceleste.blogspot.com/2009/11/scol... like what I seeing in him with the Kings. They are a youthful side and in a rebuilding process. A player like Nocioni can give valuable lesson for the young guys in the Kings dressing room. ____As a fan of Argentina, I believe his game and role is much appreciated in Sacramento rather than in Boston.

    i have to say the kings will have a good bench team when Kevin, Garcia and Tyreke gets back. but im dissapointed in the rebounds, defense and turnovers in the last couple games. Kings have to stop other team from scoring points in the paint. What happen to our offensive rebound it looks like no one is trying anymore bside JT, K-9 and sometime tyreke? K-9 has stepped up as a defender. great job. i like to c more of brockman he can grab rebound more than spencer i think. he just need work on his shooting. casspi did good but needs to know where he is passing the ball. rookie mistakes here and there. Kings need to learn how to share the ball, to many one on one when kings lead. play smart set up plays…

    Omri Casspi is much more better than Evans!
    Evans need to learn to pass !!!
    Casspi play with the team and not forcing shots!

    Love u Omri!

    Although Omri Casspi is a good player, don't start making false accusations. There is no way Omri is better than Evans.

    Evans= 19ppg, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block a game.
    Casspi=9ppg, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, no blocks a game.

    Evans is a beast who can score at will. Now, let's take nothing away from Casspi. He is a great player who will soon blossom to a good starter, he is good at shooting three's, and he brings good effort and hustle. Can't wait for the future!

    However, Evans is without a doubt better. Other than Brandon Jennings (definitely playing phenomenally), Evans is the best rookie in this class. Casspi is very good for a rookie (I consider him around 5-8th best in this draft with a BRIGHT future), but again, no where near as good as Evans.
