Postgame Quotes: Kings vs. Bulls
November 17, 2009 by kingsconnect
Head Coach Paul Westphal
“Well, I think hopefully we need to learn from this game. We got beat by a good team who was playing well; they came out of their shooting slump at the wrong time as far as we’re concerned.”
“I don’t really want to go into who we missed and all of that stuff. It’s just that they got us tonight.”
On the turnovers
“Well, everyone is a little different, I think we just have to be a little bit more alert, a little more fundamentally sound, a little more aggressive, sometimes patient – that’s what I tell the team. You have to be aggressive but you have to have patient aggressiveness. Sometimes the play calls for us to throw it someplace and if it’s not there, it’s like it freezes us. Well, okay, if that’s not there, you don’t have to throw it there, do something else and do it aggressive. It’s like we think we have to throw it and then the defense tees off on us. So, it’s a matter of us learning how to be aggressive and patient at the same time and a little more fundamentally sound and it takes time.”
Donte Greene
On how he felt tonight
“It felt good. I think I would have felt even better if we would have got the W. We are a young team and we have come a long ways. We still have a lot of work to do, but we will be alright.”
On the teams’ play tonight
“A lot of times we felt like we were rushing things. Coach always says to be quick, but be patient. Play hard and aggressive, but also be smart at the same time too. In some instances we were doing that in the game, other times we were definitely going too fast. We are still a young team and hopefully we will have a long time spent together. We are working on getting better one game at a time.”
“Tonight just wasn’t our night. We were not hitting shots that we normally hit. It just wasn’t there for us tonight and sometimes you have those nights. There are 82 games and it isn’t going to be clicking every time. Hopefully we can get a better game on the road and come back home and have a nice little home winning streak again.”
Jason Thompson
On having trouble getting their rhythm
“Obviously, the Bulls play really well and we were going back and forth with them early on. I think that they did stuff well that they usually don’t. They really aren’t a big outside shooting team. It was really good for (Jannero) Pargo to come off the bench and be a spark. Brad (Miller) came in and hit the three. They had it going. We tried to come back strong, but they were still making shots.
Vinny Del Negro, Chicago Bulls Head Coach
Team contribution…
“John Salmons was solid for us. Joakim Noah was a monster especially in the second half. He had a couple of great tip-ins. Just some good performances that we needed. We didn’t shoot the ball nearly as well in the second half. Far too many turnovers especially on the road, but at least we had enough of a cushion to sustain that a little bit. It’s a good start to a long trip.”
Starting the road trip off with a win…
“It’s great to get any win in this league. They were hot. They were playing well. It’s just good to get a road victory especially with the long trip coming up. We’ll take it. The guys worked hard. It wasn’t pretty at times. They got some offensive rebounds and pushed the tempo. They really protected the basket hard. We were fortunate to be able to control that a little more at the end of the game.”
Offensive game…
“We shot 50 percent the first half and ended up with 47 percent. Derrick and Kirk didn’t shoot the ball very well but the rest of the team did and that’s a good sign. We are not going to be able to shoot the ball well every night. You have to find other ways to be successful. We are doing that on the defensive end, hustle plays, and rebounding and controlled tempo that way. Whatever we need to do we need to find ways to be smart about it but also be diligent. We have to have an edge to us, a way to win games on the road.”
John Salmons, Chicago Bulls Guard
Coming back to Sacramento for the first time…
“It definitely felt good. The fans recognized what you did for the team while you were here. It was good to see.”
The game being a must win…
“We know we have a tough schedule. We know this was a game we had a chance to get. We wanted to come in and get the win to start the trip off right and try to steal some on the road.”
