SACRAMENTO 109, HOUSTON 100

November 13, 2009 – At ARCO Arena, the Kings stretched their winning streak to four games with a 109-100 win over Houston behind Jason Thompson’s double-double of a career-high 27 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. The Kings built their largest lead of 14 points in the second quarter and led by 11 at the half, 63-52. However, the Rockets used a 19-5 run in the third quarter to take a 71-70 lead with 5:09 left in the quarter. The Kings took the lead back on their next possession and never trailed again. Houston closed to within two points twice in the fourth quarter, but each time the Kings answered with a basket of their own. Trevor Ariza, who led all scorers with 28 points, made a reverse lay-up with 2:06 left in the fourth quarter to trim the Kings’ lead down to five, 103-98. Tyreke Evans made consecutive jumpers to finish with 20 points for the fourth straight game and gave the Kings a 107-98 edge with 52.3 seconds remaining. Thompson also added two assists and two blocks to his fifth straight double-double. Beno Udrih contributed 22 points, three rebounds, and four assists and Andres Nocioni added 15 points and seven rebounds. The Kings now have the second current longest winning streak in the NBA behind Portland (five straight wins). For the third straight contest, the Kings dominated the boards, outrebounding Houston, 54-35.

NOTES: Tyreke Evans recorded his fourth straight 20-point performance. The last Kings rookie to record that many 20-point showings was Lionel Simmons, who posted seven straight 20-point games during the 1990-91 season (Feb. 12 – 27, 1991). The Kings’ four-game winning streak is the longest win streak since the team won four straight during the 2007-08 season (Mar. 30 – Apr. 5, 2008). With a 5-4 overall record, the Kings are above the .500 mark for the first time since Dec. 2, 2006, when they were 8-7. The Kings snapped a three-game losing streak to the Rockets. The Kings have scored 100 points or more in each of the last six games. In the last three games, the Kings have outrebounded their opponents, 157-105 (Oklahoma City, 51-36; Golden State, 52-34). The rebound margin of those three games is 17.3 rpg.
