Geoff Petrie Comments On Eddie Jordan Interview
May 12, 2009 by Troy Hanson
I just got off the phone with Geoff Petrie following this evening’s interview with Eddie Jordan. The meeting lasted a little over three hours with Eddie providing analysis and taking questions from Geoff as well as Joe and Gavin Maloof. Following are some direct quotes from Geoff Petrie following the interview.
“The meeting with Eddie went very well. We spent a lot of time discussing Eddie’s offensive and defensive philosophies. He spoke about developing individual players, but playing within a team-oriented system. There was some video analysis as well as a lot of X’s and O’s breakdown on the white board. He displayed some very interesting insights in his analysis of our current roster. We also talked about his development as a coach over the years, and he provided his thoughts on how a young Washington Wizards team improved during his tenure into a team that made the Playoffs in four out of his five full seasons there. Joe and Gavin were very engaged during the meeting and asked some outstanding questions.”

Awesome. The Kings need a coach with some experience. Jordan would be a great choice, IMO.
Sounds very positive. EJ sure knows the Princeton offense GP likes. We need some more players though - come'on C-Webb, get us that #1!

donde esta antonio?
[...] Amick says Eddie Jordan is interested in the job Yeah, I know, what a shock that is. Last night, Full Connect, the Kings blog, grabbed a quote from Geoff Petrie after the interview process [...]
LETS GO KINGS…… We need the number one pick, and then trade down to number 2 and get a established player and RICKY RUBIO.
Troy, thank you for taking the time to inform us. I feel as if I am part of the process.
I have wanted Eddie Jordan back Since we got rid of Rick Adelman. Hopefully they dont screw it up again and hire another BUM like mussleman and natt, however I liked Reggie Theus.
Thank you KaraQ. Hoping to have some comments up from Geoff later this afternoon regarding the Paul Westphal interview which should now be underway.

KaraQ-
Thanks for the kind words. That was our intent to bring you more inside to what is going on over the course of the summer. In the coming days I am looking to start an Ask Geoff segment and give a look at what it will be like back in Secaucus, NJ next week at the lottery. Over the weekend I will provide some stats for the games Geoff is going to watch in Barcelona and Madrid (Ricky Rubio in the Spanish League playoffs).
Troy
that a good idea, if we get the 1st round draft then we could trade down and to number 2 and get ricky rubio
I could definitely go off and write a 9,000 word piece on what the Kings' should do, but I will sum it up like this
PRINCETON OFFENSE
EDDIE JORDAN
RICKY RUBIO
thank you
eddie jordan would be a good hire, but why not look at avery johnson or jeff van gundy- two proven playoff coaches. In addition, anyone who thinks we should take ricky rubio over blake griffin or even deal down for him would be sadly mistaken. Blake Griffin is the real deal- look at Chad Ford's observations about the kid during his San Fran workout. This kid is gonna be a special special player. Think Amare with more skills and the heart of a champion.
[...] of the Kings as well as Sacramento GM Geoff Petrie on Tuesday night. From the Kings official blog, fullcourtpress.kingsconnect.com Jordan…we pulled this quote from Petrie regarding the Kings meeting [...]
Rubio? A promising young player - but I think the YouTube thing is blowing his perceived potential above reality. Is he quick enough for the NBA? Strong enough? I have my doubts. Very few Euro high picks have become Stars in recent years. You go with the guy who will at 'least' be an All-Star.
Hey lietothegirls-
I loved your Q&A blog with Geoff Petrie on Sactown Royalty. I told Geoff about it and he says he remembers you and got a good chuckle out of it. One thing with Geoff is that he loves to talk Kings basketball and the NBA in general. Basically, his entire adult life has been wrapped up by the NBA so he loves to talk hoops. It has been written that he is introverted, shy, or quiet. That really isn't the case at all. He loves engaging with the fans. I have worked under him his entire time with the Kings and have been so fortunate to discuss and strategize Kings basketball for all these years.
My question to you is … when are you going into the basketball journalism business?
Troy
I hope he didn't mind. I tried to be careful to leave out anything he'd 'hear' about , left out some of the more personal observations he shared (not that there was a lot that he hadn't said publically before) and just do an 'I ran into Geoff Petrie' post. As for the journalism aspect, I could/should have tried harder to tell the story, but I wrote it late at night after a lot of indecision about whether to even say anything or not. I did enjoy talking with him - good guy.
lietothegirls-
You did great. We love passionate Kings fans and you are certainly one of them. And thanks for your continued readership of our new blog here.

I really liked reggie theus, we should have kept him. I tired of a new coach every year.
I want JAMES HARDEN!!!!!!!!!!!
I know reggie was awesome, Natt and musselmann were TERRIBLE!!!!!
